…holds Thanksgiving service
The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said the discipline and humility inculcated in him and his siblings have kept the family moving 15 years after the death of their father and patriarch of the Obaseki's family, the late Pa Rowland Oni Obaseki.
The governor said this while addressing the parishioners at the Diocese of Benin (Anglican Communion), St. Peter’s Anglican Church during the 15th memorial thanksgiving service of his late father and the 2023 Juvenile Harvest Thanksgiving, with the theme, “Harvest of total recovery.”
He said, “Our father was a very active member of this Church. This is our family church. I am glad the Church is preparing another generation of very devoted Anglicans as this is how we were brought up and I am happy that the tradition is continuing.
“For the family, discipline and humility have been our watchword since our patriarch departed. Discipline and humility in all we do, no matter how successful we are in life. Know you are human and responsible to somebody above you which is God Almighty. The keyword for our successes is discipline and humility.”
Reassuring support for the Church, the governor said, “We will continue to support the Church as a family. I hear there are projects and as usual, we will play our roles and give to the Church as much as we can to enable parishioners who worship here to find it amiable to seek succour from the Lord. Thank you all for the support. I encourage the children to do more as we will continue to support them in their projects.”
Commiserating with the Church over the passing of the wife of the Bishop, Obaseki noted, “Let us at this point express our condolences to our Bishop and the Church for the unfortunate bereavement of our Bishop. May the soul of our mother rest in peace.”
