The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Monday, visited the family of late Friday Asemota, an agent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who lost his life in a ghastly motor accident on his way from election duty, on Saturday.

The governor was accompanied on the visit to the family house of the deceased in Amufi, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area (LGA) of the State by the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi.

The governor, who expressed sadness over the incident, assured support for the family of the deceased.

He said, “I came with the party chairman to commiserate with you. We will not leave you alone. The party will be there to support you.

“We will be in charge of the burial and will be there for the children's schooling. At the new party we are building, we will not leave anyone behind. Anyone who has sacrificed for the party, the party will also sacrifice for the person.”

The liaison officer, Uhunmwonde LGA, Hon Richard Uyi Edebiri, while narrating the circumstances leading to the death of the party man, noted, “The car left the road and fell into a ditch. The car threw him out of the glass over four meters away from where the car stopped. It seemed he wasn't wearing seatbelts and his friend who was with him was wearing his so he remained in the car without a scratch.”

In his response, the brother of the deceased, Osahenoma Asemota, on behalf of the family, commended the governor and his entourage for the condolence visit.

He said, "We don't know what happened yet because his friend who was with him in the vehicle said he was on his phone when he realized they have veered off the road.

“I was at Ehor collation center when they called me to inform me of his death and because it was already late, I couldn’t return immediately.  The next morning, I went to the scene and from there to the mortuary where I was directed to the police who brought him here.”
